Former Priest to Run for Presidency in 2010

Former priest and now the Governor of Pampanga, Ed Panlilio have already confirmed that he will be running for President in the May 2010 elections.

In a press conference, he said that he will making his own party instead of joining existing one because both the administration and opposition party have their own vested self interest.

He further added that change is needed by the Philippines if the Filipinos wanted growth. Lastly he mentioned that the only thing that is limiting him to bid for presidency is political machinery.

In my opinion:
Political machinery will play a vital role in the candidacy of any presidentiables. Candidates are "carried" by their local counterparts. Without support from below it will a hard time vouching for the highest position in the land.

Among Ed, as he is popularly known, have already have a secret machinery waiting to be tapped: "the catholics". If he could aligned his political ambitions towards from the perspective of each and every Sunday mass goer, it can be a backbone of his way Malacanang.

88 Million Pesos Jackpot for 6/49 Draw

If you always dreamed of becoming a multi-millionaire in a wink an eye, here is your chance to become one. The Philippine Lotto 6/49 draw tonight will be having an estimate of 88 million pesos jackpot or even greater since a lot of people are already lining up to lotto outlets. Nobody won in last 13 draw that is why the pot has become bigger.

According to Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) there are now about 1300 persons that have become millionaires from lotto draws and 24th time that the jackpot have reached more than a hundred million.

Better line-up now. Mahaba na pila mamya.

Hmm I wonder what will I do with the 88 million. :-)

Manny Pacquiao to run for Congressman

Yup. You heard it right IBO Light weltherweight title holder, Manny Pacquiao will be running again for Congressman. This time he will be running at Saranggani province and not in General Santos City where he was completely knockout via a landslide victory of his opponent: Congresswoman Darlene Antonino-Custodio. Custodio got 139,061 votes over Pacquiao’s 75,908 vote.

In preparation for his entry into politics, he have formed a political party named People's Champ Movement where he is the president of the party. Presently, there are still no political figures that expressed their willingness to join Manny but other may join him as the election goes nearer.

Manny was also named as Ambassador of Peace and Understanding by President Gloria Arroyo for uniting the Filipinos during his boxing fights. The Philippine National Police has posted zero crime rate during Manny's boxing events. Moreover, Manny was appointed as Special assistant to the secretary of Justice Raul Gonzales. He will act as a consultant in its intelligence affairs.

In my opinion:

Although Manny Pacquiao still lacks political experience, I think it is about time for Filipinos to give him a chance to serve the country.

He has a good heart and it can be attested by the people that surrounds him.
Manny is rooted to his past. He does not forget where he came from and the pains he underwent.
Respect. Eventhough he knew he can beat his opponents he never brags about it and respects their defeats.
Lastly, Manny can serve as an inspiration to millions of Filipinos.

Besides being a billionaire already will lessen him of becoming a corrupt official.

More power Manny!

Dingdong as Cholo of Stairway to Heaven

In my previous blog about Marian Rivera as being the new Darna, I asked what will be the project for Dingdong Dantes. Well, here is the answer to that question. Dingdong will be playing as Cholo in a Korea Novela "Stairway To Heaven". This is one of the top-raters of GMA-7 and is also one of my all-time favorites.

In an interview with GMA-7 he said that he was surprised when the announcement was made by Mr. Felipe Gozon during the airing of SOP.

"Hindi ko alam yun, e. Ang alam ko lang, may number. So, noong nakita kong may VTR pa, sabi ko, 'Hindi ko naman birthday, bakit may ganito?' So, yun nga, may ganoon pala," Dingdong said in an interview.

Now another big question pop up... who will play the part of Jodie? Maganda sana si Marian kaya lang she already has a project as Darna. Well I just hope whoever will be chosen to portay Jodie will be well suited for the role.

I guess this will also be the sign that Marian-Dingdong love team will be out for awhile.

Martin Nievera Sorry

Here is the official statement of Martin Nievera with regards to the singing of the national anthem controversy.

“About 3 months ago I was asked by our champion Manny Pacquiao to sing the national anthem in his fight with Ricky Hatton. Iaccepted whole-heartedly. This would be my first time to be blessed with the honor of martin nieverarepresenting my country and singing our national anthem infront of the world. It was then my plan to make my moment of honor not about me or anything showbiz.

“Instead I wanted to stand center ring as nothing else but a proud Filipino singing his anthem, wanting every word and emotion behind each word to reach not just the cheap seats at the very top of the arena, but heard, felt and understood even in the non-Tagalog speaking countries all over the world. Music is the universal language, so I knew if I arranged it and performed it convincingly I could make our anthem understood even though it was the only anthem that night that was not in English. I could have just gone thru the motions of singing it over, but no, I wanted to represent and communicate.

“So with all my heart and love for the country I was so proud to represent as well as the fighter I opened for, I sang the anthem the way I did. If I were to tell you in a soft voice, in perfect time and pitch as dictated by history, ‘Ang Mamatay Nang Dahil Sa ‘Yo’ would you believe me? But if I made sure I said the line with conviction and volume enough to heard over thousands of screams then would you believe me better?

“I cannot apologize for the way I sang it because no one told me the rules nor the laws in years past. Didn’t hear about any of these so-called laws when the others before me sang their versions. I didn’t get the memo. I will not apologize for giving my all just to sing that song infront of the world. But I do apologize ONLY to the people afraid of progress and change, of course to the lawmakers and to whom ever else took offense to my interpretation of probably the most beautiful song I have ever come across. And to everyone else, God bless your open mind and open heart.

“Still a proud Filipino, Martin Nievera”

My Opinion:
Did martin really violated a law by singing his own rendition of the anthem? Yes because its relatively different the original "form" by Julian Felipe and by law we should not alter it. However this raises questions is it immoral singing a different rendition of the song. Definitely not. Martin sang the song in a manner he pour his heart out. He interpreted it in the context he believes it can serve as an inspiration for every Filipinos to be proud of.

Does singing a different rendition of the song lessen our nationalism and rootedness to our past? Again, NO. We should connect to our past by the 'way' of our present time. Making different musical arrangements may even awaken the sleeping nationalism of Filipinos.

Get out of the box kapwa pinoy! :-)

Tropical Storm "Emong" has entered Philippines

If you are planning for a summer vacation, you may want to postponed it and re-scheduled it on a later date. A Tropical Storm has entered the Philippine area of responsibility, according to National Disaster Coordination Council (NDCC) Deputy Administrator Anthony Golez said Wednesday night.

Tropical Storm "Emong" has entered the Philippines about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), Emong has a maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour with gustiness of 150 kph.

In a related news, the Makati government has canceled its grand parade plans this Friday as part of its anniversary celebration due to bad weather. According to their website, a new announcement will be made on schedules for the Grand Parade, Chalk Art and Brass Band Competition. For more information you can visit their website at makati.gov.ph

In my opinion:
Hmmm... I wonder if Team Pacquiao will push through with their parade this coming Friday. Rains during summer? Is this a clear sign of global climate change? Will this mean that we are going to have summer in the months of September-December?Ngakk... kawawa naman yung mga farmers, mahihirapang mag-forecast the best time to plant the seedlings.
